bank is something that didn't exist 1400 years ago
and PROPHET MUHAMMAD SAWW cursed 4 types of people interest payer interest reciever interest witness interest writer and you're smart enough to know that if you don't fall in these 4 categories, so it's ok to work in a bank.

according to schoalars like Dr Zakir naik, Ibtisam ilahi zaheer, Israr Ahmed
it is not right. because bank is a institution whose base is interest.
some very informative videos relating this Economic terrorism http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WrpHQml 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lRtv5Hb 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jYsJbSJ
Adeem
Working in any organisation/employer will not be allowed to a
Muslim if the principal activity of business is forbidden in Islam.
For instance a Muslim will not be allowed to work as a receptionist in an alcohol factory, a pork producing far, a casino or a nightclub. So even though there may not be a direct involvement of his post in forbidden activities, but because the entire business is forbidden in Islam, a Muslim shouldn’t be working there. Same is the case with conventional or riba-based banks. Because such a bank’s principal activity of business would be dealing in riba or lending and borrowing money and/or goods on riba, which is strictly forbidden in Islam, a Muslim shouldn’t be working there in any capacity. Having said that, it would be okay for a Muslim to work for a non-Muslim organisation (or do business with them) where the principal activity of business is otherwise allowed in Islam (i.e. cloth factory, groceries business etc.) but the employers get involved into forbidden activities such as riba-based loans, leased equipment, gambling, drinking alcohol etc. This way the employer or business partner’s acts will be on a personal level that will not affect the salary or profit earning of a Muslim because the overall or main/core business is legal from Islamic perspective. For instance Nabi (SAW) borrowed money from a Jew by pawning his armour. So even if this Jew would lend money to other people on riba/interest, Nabi (SAW)’s dealing with him was Islamic because it wasn’t based on a interest based agreement.
Luqman
Agree with Adeem.
@Topic Starter I am sure you know that Interest is Haram in Islam, and the profit generated by a bank is always or mostly on the interest gained. And from this interest money the bank runs and pays its employees. So is that salary Halal??? Hope you can judge. May Allah(swt) help you find a Halal Job if it is really required for you to work to sustain your family, else may Allah(swt) bless you with a Husband who earns halal and can sustain you.

Brother you are wrong, read this article: History of Banking! The first banks were probably the religious temples of the ancient world, and were probably established sometime during the third millennium B.C. Banks probably predated the invention of money. @MOHAMMAD
jazakALLAH brother for correcting me @Luqman well today everyone is getting paid from bank you're getting paid from bank, i'm getting paid from bank, a sweeper is getting paid from bank, an architect is getting paid from bank, each and every field is getting paid from bank because today bank is involved in every field every activity where do you save your capitals? where does everyone save their balances? where do the salaries come from? just don't float on water, go into the deep and see what's happening there. every department of bank is not involved in direct interest cheque department doesn't invovle prize bond department doesn't involve queries department doesn't involve and just to make it sound even better how would it be if every income is haram from the perspective of today's Aalim for Instance:- a sugar mill is built on interest it's machinery is purchased on interest from direct bank loans same goes for garment factories cement factories, car showrooms, mobile companies, computer manufacturing companies, I'm not directly favoring banks, infact m totally against Interest but we just can't say that every banker is earning haram.
